The Orthopaedic Residency at Foothills Physical Therapy (ORFPT)

We developed and are the only practice in Idaho to offer a locally established Orthopaedics Residency, accredited through ABPTRFE.

Idaho's only locally established Orthopedics Residency program.

Our ABPTRFE accredited residency is for physical therapists who have completed physical therapy school, seeking advanced education specializing in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.

Each year, one physical therapist will be accepted into the intensive program.

Our resident will receive 150 or more hours of one-on-one mentoring from nine of our expert faculty. Throughout the year, these faculty will provide lectures and labs, coupled with one-on-one mentoring, each week.

This program will help the resident build clinical skills and professional experience. Our residents have a 100% first-time pass rate on the OCS and a 100% program completion rate.

ORFPT is a 12-month, multi-facility, multi-mentor model.

Our curriculum consists of twelve modules, instructed by an expert in each particular area. Our faculty members boast advanced training designations including OCS, SCS, FAAOPMT, and ATC.

Clinical education is additionally augmented by clinic time spent with sports medicine, orthopedic, and neurosurgical physicians, as well as hand therapists and TMJ specialists.

Our Mission

ORFPT will develop physical therapists into clinical specialists in orthopaedic physical therapy through advanced training in clinical reasoning, skills, and application of evidence-based practice.

Immersed in a community of practice that is founded upon expert, one-on-one, quality care, the physical therapist will be able to advance the profession of physical therapy through excellence in clinical skill, evidence-based practice, clinical education, and service to the community.

I highly recommend the
Foothills Program ...

If you are searching to become a better clinician! Not only does it provide 9 different mentors throughout the year, but it still provides a positive work life balance. You will not feel like just another student, but rather a colleague and professional in the field.

Every mentor offers a different perspective, knowledge, technique, and personality. I felt well prepared for my OCS exam and was given every tool possible to aid in that success. There is a 100% pass rate coming out of this residency for a reason. I attest who I am as a Physical Therapist now to the Foothills Residency Program. At Foothills, you become family, and had I not moved to be closer to family, that is where I saw the future of my career!

Fun and interactive.

The Orthopaedic Residency at Foothills Physical Therapy helped develop me into a confident and consistent clinician.

The curriculum taught me many advanced hands-on skills and developed my clinical reasoning to give patients the best care possible.

They make it fun and interactive, creating a low-stress learning environment. I can truly say that I would not be the physical therapist I am today without this residency program!
